New Dates for 2019 Tax Returns

Due to the COVID-19 virus, the Federal Government has made some changes to the tax filing deadlines and deadlines for amounts owing.

Individual Tax

June 1, 2020 – new deadline for filing personal tax returns. There will be no penalties for filing up to June 1, 2020.

August 31, 2020 – new deadline for tax amounts owing (or became owing) on March 18, 2020 to September 1, 2020. This means any taxes owing from the 2019 tax filing will be due August 31, 2020.

GST/HST Filings and Payments

There have been no information on any modification to GST/HST filings and payments. Please continue using the due dates as specified.

Corporate Tax

August 31, 2020 – Same as the Personal Tax balances owing, any amounts owing at March 18, 2020 to September 1, 2020 are now due August 31, 2020.

There have been no discussion regarding modifying the dates of the Corporate Tax filing dates at the time of this post.

CRA will also be suspending any new post assessments (reviews) or new audits for the next 4 weeks. Any current assessments or audits will be suspended as well.
